Professional Engineering Day
East Hawaiʻi engineering firms and NexTech Hawaiʻi will celebrate National Professional Engineers Day by offering our youth an opportunity to meet and learn from local engineers.
The day will include a one-on-one Career Match, where students meet with an engineer to discuss their interest in the engineering profession.
Amelia Earhart Girls in Engineering Day
The 8th Annual Amelia Earhart Girls in Engineering Day will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Waiakea High School in Hilo. This event is open to girls from Hawai‘i Island in grades 4-8. Space is limited and is open to the first 50 girls who register.
This year’s theme is flight - participants will have hands-on activities to learn about airplanes and drones. They will also have the opportunity to hear from women professionals in the STEM fields.
Engineering Career Exploration
East Hawaiʻi engineering firms and NexTech Hawaiʻi are celebrating National Professional Engineers Day with an opportunity for Hawaiʻi youth to meet and learn from local engineers. This by-invitation-only event includes a Career Match event where students meet 1:1 with an engineer to discuss their interest in the engineering profession.
The event will conclude with a complimentary lunch and a special presentation about engineering careers.
NexTech Partner Event: Hawaii Island Robotics Academy
Waiakea High School Robotics Club and Waiakea High School Technology Learning Center are hosting the 16th Annual Hawaii Island Robotics Academy (HIRA), a 5-day robotics camp for 3rd to 6th graders.
Tuition is $300. Campers will be programming, building, and testing various technology applications.

Manu! Not Mosquitos Workshop
“Manu! Not Mosquitos” is a FREE, one-day STEAM Intensive workshop for all High Schoolers on Hawai’i Island. Our topics will be centered around Hawaiian bird conservation and learning about solutions supporting critically endangered birds in Hawai’i. We are excited to host an expert team of local women scientists and conservation researchers practicing science here in Hawai’i to lead the event. Lunch is provided. All are welcome! Hawai'i Climate Community Fair
Join this community event in Hilo to learn about climate and sustainability from a number of local organizations.
NexTech will be in attendance and will be promoting FishTank and our STEM programs.
The event will be held at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Intro to Engineering
NexTech presents a workshop designed to inspire curiosity and interest in engineering.
This free event is open to all 4th to 6th graders on Hawai’i Island. Spots are limited.
Design Engineering Process Workshop
We are hosting a FREE online Design Engineering Process Workshop on Saturday, November 19, from 930-1100. This workshop is tailored for our FishTank Design Competition participants but will be valuable to anyone interested in the problem-solving process.
FishTank 2022 Open House with guest, Brittany Zimmerman
Join our Open House to learn about this year's FishTank Design Competition. You'll learn about this year's theme (sustainability), the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and our STEM competition process, schedule, and prizes. Guest speaker, Brittany Zimmerman, Founder and CEO of Yummet, a company that has developed important climate solutions. She will share her story and critical problem-solving strategies.
FishTank Design Competition 2022-2023
FishTank 2022 is happening!
NexTech’s FishTank Design Competition is an annual STEM competition for Hawaiʻi Island students, grades 6-12. Teams of 2-4 students will work together to design a solution to a local problem using the Engineering Design Process. Teams will also have the opportunity to work with local leaders and STEM experts as they develop their solutions.

Fall Break STEM Camp
NexTech Hawaii and Waiakea Robotics are collaborating to offer Hawaii Island students, grades 6-8, a STEM camp during Fall Break 2022.
Students will be offered two days of interesting and fun activities:
The camp will be held at Waiakea High School in Hilo on October 3 and 4, 2022. Each day will run from 8 AM through 1230 PM.
'OAKA Youth Summit (Vibrant Hawaii Event)

Bridges of Hamakua
NexTech Hawaii is pleased to present Bridges of Hamakua, a journey that explores the history of the bridges along the Hamakua coast and the engineering involved in the construction and renovation of these bridges. Also included, is a classroom activity that will delve into bridge design. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
